Field of Honor: 400-flag display will honor veterans

The Auburn Exchange Club is proud to host a “Field of Honor: Tribute to Veterans” flag display to honor and salute service men and women of the past, present and future. This event features a display of 400 American flags attached to eight-foot flagpoles and installed in a grid at the Simard-Payne Memorial Park (Railroad Park) in Lewiston.

The intent is to provide a moving tribute to the men and women who are now serving or have served in the military branches of the United States of America.

The Field of Honor event is free and open to the public daily, May 28 through Memorial Day, May 30. Come with your family and friends to walk among the flags, or bring a lawn chair and experience the Spirit of America as you never have before.

Flag sponsors will have the option of honoring a family member, friend, personal hero or to all who serve and sacrifice for our freedom. Flags with such an honoree will bear an identification label.

The proceeds from flag sales for this event will raise funds to benefit the Auburn Exchange Youth Fund.

One flag kit costs $40. Each flag kit includes the following: a 3-ft. by 5-ft. all-weather U.S. Flag; a specially engineered durable white flagpole; a gold vinyl ball for top of pole; an epoxy coated rebar; and miscellaneous ties and washers needed for pole assembly.

The cost is $45 to have a flag mailed to you. This includes only the flag, not the kit.

Sponsors will be able to order flags through the event website or at the event site on May 27-30. To sponsor a flag, send your names, phone number, address, the number of flag kits you want ($40 each) and names of any service members you want honored to: Auburn Exchange Club, P.O. Box 1061, Auburn ME 04211. Make checks payable to Auburn Exchange Club.

You can also make credit card purchases or download a brochure and order form at: www.healingfield.org/new/lewiston. For more information, email aburnexchangeclub@gmail.com.

After the event is over, sponsors may pick up their flags, flagpoles and mounting rebar on May 31 at the park. Those who pay an extra fee of $5 per flag at time of purchase may have their flag only mailed to them.

The Field of Honor will be installed at the Simard-Payne Memorial Park, off Lincoln Street in Lewiston.

Setup is scheduled for May 27 from noon to 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public on Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A parade will be held at 9 a.m.

The event is open on Sunday and Monday, May 29 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Flags will be sold during the event on all three days.

The Exchange Club’s organizing committee is David Projansky, Rollie Heckethorn, Jamie Pelletier, John Reid and Chris Bellevue. Sponsor is JT Reid’s Gun Shop in Auburn.

Quick question, I’m looking for where to find US Flags … Has anyone heard of this company? I can’t find any reviews on them — FlagWave.com, 3936 Hwy 52 N, Ste 160, Rochester MN 55901 – (507) 250-6018
