These local residents are all smiles for tax prep assistance on this year’s Super Refund Saturday at the Lewiston Armory.

The Lewiston-Auburn CA$H Coalition’s annual Super Refund Saturday brought a room full of IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers to the Lewiston Armory on February 13, when the group collectively prepared and e-filed Federal and State tax returns, free of charge, for 219 local residents.

A financial resource fair with a focus on “savings” also took place at the site, where many attending shared their savings aspirations and received assistance accessing and reviewing their credit report. Several residents also won $25 gift cards. Participating in the fair were representatives of College for ME Androscoggin, Finance Authority of Maine, New Ventures Maine, the Lewiston Veterans Center, Key Bank, the Center for Wisdom’s Women, Community Credit Union, Community Concepts, City of Auburn & Lewiston Housing Programs, United Way of Androscoggin County, and Western Maine CAP Healthcare Navigator.

Free tax preparation and filing will continue through April 1; those with household incomes of $54,000 or less may call for an appointment at 513-3160. No walk-ins will be accepted.

Since 2004, the LA CA$H Coalition has facilitated over $26 million in income tax refund claims for local residents. The work of the coalition is funded by a statewide VITA Grant, the JT Gorman Foundation, and Key Bank.
