Androscoggin County Chamber chooses new helm
Following a lengthy national search by its board of directors, the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce has selected Matt Leonard, 39, from among 54 applicants as president and CEO. Leonard replaces outgoing helm Chip Morrison, beginning his term on May 11.
Leonard grew up in Maine but currently resides in San Diego, California, where he is completing his career as a senior executive advisor in the military.
According to sources, Leonard has been stationed in Japan, San Diego, Brunswick and the Pentagon over his naval career and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has several degrees including a bachelor of science in business studies from Southern New Hampshire University. His wife, Rebekah, is an opera singer.
A strong background in organizational leadership complements his extensive experience in business, political management, and web development and design. Standing out among the other candidates, Leonard’s vision for the chamber’s future has been viewed as exemplary.
Morrison, completing a nearly 20-year stint with the chamber, will stay on as advisor through June 3 to assist with the transition.
