Art Walk on Friday features Downeast Brass, artist Stephanie Berry

Lewiston-Auburn’s third Art Walk of 2012 will take place Friday, July 27 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at venues on and around Lisbon Street in Lewiston. This month’s featured artist will be Stephanie Berry, and the entertainment will be provided by the Downeast Brass.

The opening reception for Museum L/A’s latest exhibit, “The Power of Music,” will take place at the Museum, just a block away at 35 Canal Street, from 4 to 7 p.m. All events are free.

Downeast Brass will perform from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dufresne Plaza, adjacent to 84 Lisbon Street. Comprised of five accomplished musicians from Southern and Central Maine, the group’s wide range of musical styles makes them a crowd pleasing choice for many occasions. They have performed in a variety of notable New England settings, from Governor Baldacci’s inauguration ceremony, to the Moxie Festival Parade, to the historic Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.

Founder and arranger Dwight Tibbetts keeps the unique talents and skills of his colleagues in mind as he arranges music specifically for the group. Since its members are also music educators, they make a concerted effort to reach audiences of all ages with original and entertaining selections.

This month’s featured Art Walk artist is Stephanie Berry. Berry attended Portland Art School, but it wasn’t until decades later, after raising a family, that she began to rekindle her interest in oil painting. Since 2005, her work has appeared in a number of juried art shows. During Art Walk L/A’s inaugural season, she participated in all five events. She currently has small paintings for sale at C. Periwinkle & Co., a Harpswell gift shop.

Berry explores different styles of painting, but she favors a looser style and colorful palette; her favorite medium remains oils. Her work, which includes landscapes, still lifes, portraits and figurative motifs, is often inspired by things closest to home: her gardens, the changing seasons, her family, and favorite places.
