Fiddle-icious schedules local concert dates

Fiddleicious

Maine’s largest fiddle orchestra has local performance dates scheduled in Lewiston (November 2) and Topsham (October 25).

Maine’s largest fiddle orchestra, Fiddle-icious, has set the dates for its 2014 concert series. This is the eleventh year the group will entertain area audiences with traditional music in an atmosphere of infectious energy and joy. Fiddle-icious is a non-profit, all-volunteer community organization that now numbers 140 members, hailing from Kittery to Augusta.

The group includes fiddle, piano, harp, guitar, banjo, accordion, cello, tin whistle, concertina and upright bass. Consisting of tunes from the Irish, Scottish, Quebecois and Acadian traditions, their repertoire include jigs, reels, aires, marches, waltzes, step dances and songs.

The group is directed by designated Master Fiddler Don Roy of Gorham. Don and his wife, Cindy, who provides piano accompaniment, grew up in French-Canadian families where music was an integral part of their lives. Their work with the group is motivated by their desire to share their knowledge with others, to foster community through music and to keep their musical heritage alive.

The group’s local appearances will take place on Saturday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Orion Performing Arts Center, Mt. Ararat Middle School in Topsham (tickets $10 at the door; kids 12 and under free) and on Sunday, November 2 at 2 p.m. at the Franco Center in Lewiston (tickets $15/13 at 689-2000). CDs will be available for purchase at each performance location.
