Sabattus Rec to Hold Running For Any Sport Sessions & 5Ks

SABATTUS, ME (June 23, 2022) — The Sabattus Rec Club Running Program will be holding two free, one-hour training sessions designed to help middle and high school-aged students learn how to run better. The Running For Any Sport program will be held on Saturday, July 23 on the Oak Hill HS football field in Wales.

The first session will start at 9 a.m. for middle school students from the Oak Hill area and will be followed at 10 a.m. by the high school students. The sessions are open to both boys and girls.

These will not be specific sport coaching sessions, and no personal training will be offered. Regardless of the sport, though, there will be helpful information for all athletes. Among other things, participants will learn warm-up and balance tips, running efficiency, breathing exercises, workout suggestions, and cooldown methods.

Attendees should wear a good pair of running shoes, bring hydration and a towel or blanket, and be prepared to run.

Sabattus Rec Club To Hold Summer 5Ks

Each year, the Sabattus Rec Running Program holds two fun, mainly non-competitive 5K events. These are designed for all ages, and anyone can win a prize. There is a very low registration fee of just $5!!! (There are prizes for first place male and female at each event, but most prizes are not based on time.) Each event is held at the Oak Hill Middle School on Ballpark Rd in Sabattus. Each event begins at 6 p.m., with registration starting at 5 p.m.

Thursday, July 21, 6 p.m.:   The first event is the Blackjack 5K. Participants will collect two cards on the course, and if they get a Blackjack, they will win a prize. If they don’t get Blackjack, they can get one more card at the finish line to try for a 3-card total of 21. All 21s will win a prize. Then we will raffle off the remainder of all the prizes.

Thursday, August 18, 6 p.m.:  The second event is the Prediction 5K. Participants guess their finish time when they register, and no watches, trackers, earbuds, or any electronic devices are allowed on the course. Prizes will be awarded starting with the closest to their guess, and work down the list. We will also raffle off more prizes after the top 10 guesses.
