Rick Andrew’s entry was one of twenty different offerings enjoyed at the third annual Soup, Chili & Chowder Challenge at Baxter Brewing Company.

Crisp fall weather provided a seasonal backdrop for the third annual Soup, Chili & Chowder Challenge, which took place recently at Baxter Brewing Company in Lewiston. More than 200 people sampled the offerings of 20 different cooks, voted for their favorites and enjoyed discounts on pints of beer, courtesy of Baxter Brewing. The event raised approximately $2,100 to benefit patient care at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice.

“Once again, members of the AHCH family, their friends and the community came out to support a good cause,’’ said Kenneth Albert, President and CEO of AHCH, who also served up his tasty Butternut Squash Soup. “The soups, chowders and chilis were amazing, and I suspect that it was difficult for people to decide which one was the best.”

Serving as judges were Kevin Simoneau of the Fortin Group, Kelly Goodwin of Team AGF, Sue Ray of TD Bank, and Dan Campbell, chair of the Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walk. They chose Theresa Stocklas’ Four Bean Soup as their favorite. The People’s Choice Award was a close competition, with Mary Lou Zahn’s Seafood Chowder selected as the top choice. Winners received a prize basket, along with coveted bragging rights for the year.

The Challenge was organized by the Dream Team, one of several groups that raises money during the year and makes its final donation at AHCH’s annual Hospice House 5K and Remembrance Walks, which will take place and on May 21, 2017 in Auburn and May 7, 2017 in Farmington.

A limited number of 2016 Soup, Chili and Chowder Challenge Cookbooks are still available for $5. Please make checks payable to AHCH and send to Hospice House, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn, ME 04210.
