YPLAA and Chamber to sponsor candidates’ forum

On Wednesday, October 12, the Young Professionals of the Lewiston-Auburn Area (YPLAA) and the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Fourth Annual Candid Candidates, a chance for the public to a meet and hear directly from the candidates vying for local city council and mayoral seats.

“How important is your city to you? Would you like to learn more about the issues affecting local government in Lewiston and Auburn and have your opinions heard?” said Kelly Jaeger, YPLAA Betterment Co-Chair.

“This informal event is open to the public and is designed to encourage all ages to get involved in creating a city we want to live, work and play in,” she said. “This is your chance to learn what future city council and mayoral candidates plan to do to help your city. Please join us!”

The event, which will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn, will begin at 5 p.m. The first half hour will be an informal social gathering, allowing voters and candidates to speak directly to one another.

Volunteers will help voters identify candidates running in their ward, and YPLAA will provide candidates with space to display campaign literature. At 5:30 p.m., candidates will introduce themselves to the audience and will then answer questions about their vision for the future of Lewiston and Auburn.

The event will be moderated by Kevin Fletcher, a commercial realtor and YPLAA member, with questions prepared by the YPLAA Betterment Committee and The Chamber’s Business Advocacy Committee.

Light appetizers will be served, and a cash bar will be available. The event is free and open to the public.

For more information, contact Jenny Ziebart at The Chamber at 783-2249. Information will also be posted at the YPLAA website, www.yplaa.com, as well as on the YPLAA and DowntownLA Facebook pages.
