LETTER: Next election, stop the insanity

To the Editor:

The quote “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” is credited to Albert Einstein. I thought of his quote when I heard the news that U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe will not be running for reelection.

I knew what was coming. Sure, let’s round up the usual suspects. We all know who they are—former governors, wanna-be governors, present members of congress, you know the names—and watch as those folks all come to the feeding frenzy.

They have all done such a wonderful job with our state and country, let’s give one of them a raise and send them to Washington.

Seems to me that would be insane. But isn’t that just what we have been doing year after year and expecting different results?

May I make a modest proposal? How about the idea that anyone presently in office or that term-limited out or that has been a career politician or who has run and lost and complains about a stolen election, how about they all just stay home and save their money or their rich relative’s money on a campaign.

We need to nominate and elect someone that really cares about the country—not a political party or an ego. This country is in deep trouble. We all had a hand in the creation of the problem. Isn’t it time to stop repeating our mistakes and bring a bit of sanity to government?

It is up to us to make our Republic work. Every election affords us another opportunity to stop the insanity.

Thanks, Olympia, for years of trying and giving us another chance to save our Republic. As is always the case, it’s up to you the voter.

  • Informed decision-making develops from a long tradition of guessing and blaming others for inadequate results.
No problem about people stealing your thinking. Should your ideas are any good, you will need to ram them down people’s throats.
