Auburn Fire Dept. to hold 9/11 ceremony, blood drive

The Auburn Fire Department and Auburn Firefighters Local 797 will be hosting a 10-Year Anniversary Ceremony in memory of 9/11 and a blood drive on Sunday.

A full day of remembrance is planned on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Auburn Fire Station at 550 Minot Ave., marking significant moments that occurred during the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

The Auburn Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the station, which will begin at 8:46 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. This start time is significant because it marks the moment the first plane struck the World Trade Center.

The outpouring of compassion after September 11 was like none other. Please honor those lives lost by helping save the lives of others. Stop by on September 11 to donate blood. Call 1-800 RED CROSS to make an appointment.

Refreshments and a special September 11th memorial T-shirt will be available for all blood donors.

The 10th anniversary ceremony will include the dedication of a new memorial, which incorporates a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. The ceremony will begin at 9:45 a.m. Seating will begin at 9:15 a.m.

The ceremony is an outside event and will be held rain or shine. Parking will be off-site at Fairview School. A shuttle system will be set up to transport to the station.

For more information, please contact the Auburn Fire Department at 784-5433, ext. 26.
