Deputy Chief Graduates From FBI National Academy

AUBURN, ME (December 10, 2022) – Auburn Chief of Police Jason Moen is proud to announce that Deputy Chief Timothy A. Cougle has graduated as a member of the 284th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia on December 8, 2022. DC Cougle is the sixth officer in department history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers ten weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 284th session consistent of two hundred and thirty-seven law enforcement officers from forty-nine states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 25 countries, 5 military organizations, and 5 federal civilian organizations.

“This experience was definitely a highlight of my law enforcement career,” said Cougle. “To be surrounded by, learn from, and connect with some of the best law enforcement professionals in the world was a unique opportunity and an experience I will never forget. I was able to gain perspective and knowledge from people who are doing the same job, facing the same opportunities and challenges, and making a difference in their communities. I’m grateful to my family, my friends, and the team at Auburn PD for the sacrifices they made that allowed me to be a part of this rewarding professional development training.”

Cougle, a life-long resident of Auburn, is a 25-year veteran of the department. He has served as a patrol officer, detective, patrol sergeant and lieutenant, and was commander of all three divisions within the department: patrol, support services and criminal investigations prior to his appointment as deputy chief.

“All of us at the Auburn PD are very proud of Deputy Chief Cougle,” said Police Chief Jason Moen, who is also a proud graduate of the National Academy. “This is a huge accomplishment, and the experience will serve him – and our agency – well in the years to come.”

Auburn’s most recent FBI National Academy graduates include Retired Chief Phillip L. Crowell, Jr., and current Chief Jason D. Moen.
