Churches provide community service at Share L/A

Share L/A will again this August reach out to the local community in an effort to serve the Twin Cities and its residents. Church members of various congregations will come together to lend a hand throughout Lewiston and Auburn, whether it be clearing brush, park clean-up, painting, etc.

Pastor Per Almquist of Free Grace Presbyterian Church in Lewiston and Pastor Dave Bochtler of Grace Community Church in Auburn will head up the effort.

Almquist has coordinated with Lewiston Deputy Public Works Director Megan Bates. On August 4, projects in Lewiston will include: clearing brush along the new Lewiston High cross country trail; clearing brush for a new lookout and picnic area by Lewiston High School athletic fields; and cleaning up the river bank at Simard-Payne Park for the upcoming Balloon Festival.

“We are so grateful to be working with Share L/A for a second year,” said Bates. “They’re an organization of people with genuinely good hearts and a thorough understanding of service to community. Share LA comes ready to work and gets a tremendous amount accomplished in an allotted time. The community will certainly see the impact they make on August 4.”

Auburn Director of Recreation Ravi Sharma has also been on board, and Auburn projects on August 4 will include park clean-up (litter, pruning, weeding, graffiti clean-up) throughout downtown in preparation for the Balloon Festival; cleaning up, painting and repairing facilities at the Tot Lot; and repairing and painting bleachers and benches in various parks.

“Share L/A’s volunteer outreach is prepared to make a positive impact on the community through various projects that will enhance the appearance of areas throughout the city,” Sharma said. “We are extremely grateful to work with a group with such eagerness to share their time in an effort to improve the community.”

Share L/A participants will meet at Lewiston High School, 156 East Avenue, at 9 a.m. for project assignment, which will conclude at 1 p.m. Share L/A bases its outreach on the desire to demonstrate God’s love by offering real hope and help to others via taking on projects that cities long to see done but have not been able to accomplish on their own.
